The Gothenburgian Iká Sessions

Participants Pontus Fredriksson, Karl Erland Gadelii, Tore Janson, Jouni Maho, Joseph Onyeche, Christina Thornell, and occasionally others too.

Iká is an Igboid language spoken in southern Nigeria. It belongs to a widespread language family commonly known as Niger-Congo (or, Niger-Kordofanian). To our knowledge, it has yet to be thoroughly described. Thus our wish has been to contribute towards the proper description of this language, and we have aimed at covering phonetics/phonology as well as grammar. Preliminary accounts of various aspects of the language have been presented and discussed in various seminars.

The entire enterprise has now been incorporated into Joseph Onyeche's dissertation project "Change or death? Ongoing change in the Iká language".
